Great book on what it means to be a great manager, particularly in the field of software — or any knowledge-worker industry. It’s the first book I’m trying a new approach to reading on: I’ve been reading with a pen in hand, scribbling over anything I find interesting, and dog-earing every page I leave a comment on. Now, in six weeks, I’m gonna go back over every comment I made and consolidate them into a little “best of” post. Hopefully this helps me retain things a little better, and maybe it’ll improve my reading comprehension.

Phil Gordon’s Little Green BookPhil Gordon
This is a great beginner-moderate book on poker (No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em, obviously), with a focus on tournament play. It’s all broken down and stated very simply…other than the brief, mostly painless math sections.
Deceive your opponents by identifying their expectations, and then by disappointing them. Play tight when the table thinks you’re loose; play loose when the table thinks you’re tight. And be aggressive!

I’ve just gotten into Go, where you place stones on a 19x19 grid in an attempt to secure more territory than your opponent, and it is quite probably my new favorite board game. Of course, that meant I actually had to learn how to play and whatnot, so I read this book my Grandpa gave me as a beginner’s guide.
Kaoru Iwamoto makes Go simple, and still manages to discuss everything from general strategy to ground-level tactics. I didn’t get much out of the practice problems — I thought they just weren’t well done — but the book itself is a short and easy read, and it’s definitely improved my game.
Anyone wanna play? :D

So doing business the wrong way is art…
I am so goddamn excited. About everything. Dr. Manhattan status, past present and future, art and business and the synthesis of the two, TIME AND SPACE
Anyways, nonsense aside, Jack White is a god amongst men, and a genius of art and business. Pay attention and learn.
